Caldwell County started strong but faded in the second half as they fell to Ballard Memorial 55-36 Thursday in the West Kentucky Hoops Classic in Princeton.
The Lady Tigers started strong, jumping out to an 11-2 lead before the Lady Bombers found their footing and cut their deficit to 17-13 after one quarter. Turnovers bothered Caldwell County in the second quarter and were a theme throughout the game as Ballard Memorial scored 24 points off 18 Lady Tiger turnovers.
Ballard outscored Caldwell 12-9 in the second frame to take a 26-25 lead into halftime. In the second half, Caldwell managed to shoot just 4-of-25 from the field while Ballard hit 13-of-24. Ballard outscored Caldwell 17-5 in the third quarter and 13-5 in the fourth quarter for the 19-point win.
Peyton Young led Caldwell with nine points and seven rebounds, while Jada Boyd added eight points. Lucy Goffinet and Karsyn Parker each scored six points for the Lady Tigers (6-4).
Mady Calvin led Ballard Memorial (8-3) with 19 points and 10 rebounds, while Leah Shleey added 15 points and 12 rebounds.
Caldwell County will play twice in the West Kentucky Hoops Fest Friday, hosting Calloway County at 11:00 and Corinth, MS at 3:30. Calloway beat Corinth 59-42 in a Thursday contest.
