It was not the prettiest start to the New Year for the Hopkinsville Lady Tigers Tuesday night on a cold night in Madisonville. Still Hopkinsville managed to get enough done to get their first win of 2018, defeating the Madisonville Lady Maroons 58-33.
Hopkinsville blew the game wide open with a 30-4 run late in the 3rd quarter and at the beginning of the 4th quarter.
The Lady Tigers struggled a bit coming out of the gate, leading only 8-5 with 2:39 to go in the 1st quarter. Hoptown was able to push the lead out to 6 at the end of the quarter, 12-6. Jayla Rose had 8 of Hopkinsville’s 12 points.
The Lady Tigers extended the lead to 10 points at 18-8 about halfway through the second quarter. Jayla Rose continued to play big for Hopkinsville, with six more in the quarter. The Lady Maroons trimmed the lead to 22-15 at the half.
Madisonville, which never led in the contest, made a serious run to get back into the game in the third quarter. Trailing 26-17, Madisonville outscored the Lady Tigers 8-2, cutting the lead to 3 points at 28-25 on a Camryn LaGrange three wth 2:35 to go in the quarter. It was at that point, Madisonville lost sight of the Hopkinsville Lady Tigers.
Hopkinsville scored the last nine points of the third quarter and the first five of the 4th quarter to extend the lead to 42-25. By the time the blitz from the Lady Tigers was over, the run was 30-4 and the lead was 58-29, and the game was done.
Jayla Rose led the way for Hopkinsville with 24 points. London Foster added 14, while Breon Oldham came off the bench to add 10. Courtney Peyton was the only player to reach double figures for Madisonville with 13.
The Lady Tigers up their record to 13-4 on the season, while Madisonville falls to 3-9.
