Hopkinsville volleyball head coach Brad Boyd has announced he is leaving to become associate coach at Heritage Christian Academy. Boyd has coached at Hopkinsville for the past two seasons, but his daughter Allie is a sophomore at Heritage Christian and plays volleyball there.
Boyd was an assistant coach at Hopkinsville for four seasons and had a record of 37-36. Hoptown went 21-18 this past season and won their first district title since 2001. The 21 wins by the Lady Tigers in 2017 were the most since 2003. They beat Livingston Central in the region tournament for their first win since 2004.
Boyd has also coached several travel teams in recent years.
At Heritage Christian, he will be reunited with Head Coach Eldridge Rogers, who coached him on an intramural team at Hopkinsville Community College in 1994.
Boyd’s daughter Allie is on the volleyball team at HCA, a member of the Kentucky Christian Athletic Conference. He said coaching Hoptown, a KHSAA school, didn’t afford him the opportunity to see Allie play as much as he would have liked.
Rogers said the addition of Boyd on his staff will be the most evident at practices where he has had to conduct drills for varsity and junior varsity teams mostly by himself.
