One of Kentucky’s best high school football players in the 2025 recruiting class will be going out of state to play his college football.

Boyle County athlete Montavin Quisenbeerry verbally committed to West Virginia Friday. It was no huge surprise considering West Virginia head coach Neal Brown is a Boyle County High School graduate and West Virginia secondary coach Shadon Brown also is from Danville and played for Danville High School.

The 5-9, 160-pound Quisenberry had impressive offers including Kentucky — Mark Stoops and Vince Marrow both visited Boyle this spring — along with Louisville, Michigan, Ole Miss and Virginia Tech,

“They really like how slippery he is and all he does. They say he reminds them of (former Western Hills/UK star) Wan’Dale Robinson,” Boyle coach Justin Haddix said about Marrow and Stoops coming to see Quisenberry.

Quisenberry worked in the offseason to add strength and posted recently he had a bench press of 275 pounds, squat of 445 and power clean of 255.

Quisenberry made an early official visit to West Virginia but also seemed extremely interested in Louisville after his official visit there. Haddix, who thinks Quisenberry is the state’s best player, had expected his star player to commit sometime this summer.

Quisenberry can play quarterback, receiver, running back, kick/punt returner and defensive back — and play them all well.

Quisenberry has already put up some amazing numbers going into his senior season:

2023 — He caught 43 passes for 864 yards and 12 touchdowns and ran for 800 yards and 18 more scores while averaging almost 10 yards per attempt. He also returned three punts and two kickoffs for scores to finish the season with 210 points. On defense, he had 51 tackles, four tackles for loss and two interceptions.

2022 — He had 57 receptions for 833 yards and 13 scores and ran 96 times for 1,009 yards and 10 more scores. He returned three kickoffs and three punts for scores to finish with 174 points. On defense, he had 36 tackles, three interceptions, two forced fumbles and one fumble recovery.

2021 — As a freshman he played quarterback at Garrard County and completed 90 of 130 passes for 1,034 yards and 10 touchdowns. He also ran for 1,501 yards on 19 scores on 162 carries. On defense, he had 34 tackles, four forced fumbles, three fumble recoveries and three interceptions.

Going into his senior season he has scored 510 points and rushed for 3,310 yards and averaged almost 10 yards per carry over three seasons along with having a 1,000-yard passing season as a freshman. The last two years at Boyle he has 100 catches for 1,697 yards and 22 scores. He has six punt return touchdowns and five kickoff return touchdowns the last two seasons.

If that’s not enough, he has 121 tackles, eight interceptions and four fumble recoveries on defense.

  1. Looks like he was involved in NIL his freshman year in high school and went to the highest bidder?

    1. What about we just celebrate the kid going to WVU! He is a great young man! You can address all negative comments to me if you would like.

  2. I wish the young man the best, But I don’t get it. If you’re going to leave the state now days, I wouldn’t think West Virginia would be the destination even with Brown being the coach. I guess he wanted to be the man next year instead of backing up Brown. He’ll be calling Stoops in a year or two.

    1. Maybe it had to do Jimmy with the way the offense fit him or his relationship with Neal Brown. Not the first player to leave the state, won’t be the last. But also remember that UK goes out of state to get players, too. Goes both ways. He’s a good kid

      1. I agree, Larry. I would love to see him at UK, but there are only so many spots on any team. I look for him to spend a year or two away and come back to UK.

  3. I don’t see Brown coming back next year. Even tho he’s not a polished receiver. He could handle punt returns for a NFL team and be a backup receiver his first year in the NFL. I think this is his last year at Kentucky. This kid might end up transferring to Kentucky if West Virginia has a couple bad years. He going to see how good Kentucky does this year and wish he would have came here. He could have gotten starter minutes as a freshman in 2025.
