A 3-over-par 75 in Wednesday’s Region 1 Golf Tournament means Caldwell County senior Collin Whittington has advanced to next week’s State First Round tournament in Hopkinsville.

Whittington’s total put him in a four-way tie for seventh individually in action at Calvert City Country Club, easily earning him a spot in the next round. (The top two teams and next 10 lowest scores in the regional move on.)

Landon Hunt of McCracken County was medalist after being the only player to finish in red numbers with a 3-under 69. That helped the Mustangs capture the team championship as well with a 293.

Marshall County was team runner-up at 306.

Three players tied for second individually with rounds of 73 — Jack Farmery and Dallas Vinson of McCracken and Ian Dahnke of Murray.

Whittington’s 75 tied him for seventh with Haydon Reynolds of Trigg County, Peyton Toon of Paducah Tilghman and Brooks Lamb of Marshall County.

Meanwhile, Caldwell placed eighth out of 14 full squads in the team standings.

The Tigers carded a team score of 361, which was one shot better than Lyon County and two shots ahead of both Carlisle County and Paducah St. Mary.

Scott Cortner shot a 92 for Caldwell on Wednesday while Cole Wyatt finished at 94 and Landon Mitchell at 100.

Whittington will next play Monday in the State First Round at Hopkinsville Golf and Country Club.
