The Todd County Central Rebels made a little bit of history Tuesday night. The problem is they would like to have made just a little bit more.

Greenwood scored in the final two minutes of the match to break a 4-4 tie and the Gators would hold on the rest of the way to take a 5-4 win over the Todd County Central Rebels in Bowling Green.

The Rebels’ four goals were the first goals they had ever scored against Greenwood and the Rebels came within moments of picking up their first-ever win over the Gators.

The two teams played even for the first 10 minutes. The Gators slipped in a shot from the top of the box to get the 1-0 advantage.

At 12 minutes in, John Ross Cardwell served a ball into Tanner Henderson, who poked it home right in front of their keeper to even things up at 1-1.

Greenwood subbed an entire new lineup at the 20 minute mark and the fresh legs enabled the Gators to score their second goal and take a 2-1 lead.

A Chris Salazar corner to John Ross shortly after that pulled the Rebels even again at 2-2.

Greenwood tacked on another goal inside the final five minutes of the half to make it 3-2 at the break.

The Rebels came out strong to start the second half and at 5 minutes into the half Chris Salazar bent in a free kick from 20 yards out and the score was tied again at 3-3.

The last 10 minutes of the match saw tough physical play. The Gators were awarded a penalty kick that put them back in front 4-3.

The Todd County Central response was instant as Chris Salazar took a free kick from midfield and, thanks to some hustle by John Ross Cardwell, who lept across the keeper’s face, the ball hit the keeper’s palms and then headed into the net.

With less than two minutes left in the match, Greenwood caught the Rebels on a long ball run out to get the game-winning goal.

The Rebels drop to 12-4-1 with the loss. They will close out the regular season by hosting Trigg County Thursday night.
