Trigg County will be sending two runners to the Class 2A State Cross Country Meet this weekend after the team just missed out on advancing out of the region.

David Cavanaugh turned in a ninth-place finish for the Wildcats with a time of 17:44 over the 3.1-mile course at Marshall County High School. Cavanaugh missed last year’s region meet with a foot injury, but will be returning to the state meet where he finished in 49th place as a sophomore.

Joining the Wildcat senior at state will be sophomore Brody Renfroe, who finished in 18th place in a time of 18:39 seconds.

Braxton Hargrove finished in 22nd place with a time of 18:57 seconds while Dekon Perry was 31st in 19:33 and Dominic Skinner was 34th in 20:09.

Travis Cavanaugh completed the course in 20:46 seconds to finish in 38th place and Grant Gallogly ran a time of 21:00 to finish in 40th place.

The top four teams qualified for the state meet. Trigg County found itself in fifth place with 104 points, nine points behind Hopkins County Central, and a chance to run as a team at state.

Cavanaugh and Renfroe will run in the state meet on Saturday at the Kentucky Horse Park in Lexington.
