Mark Pope was almost giddy Thursday when he talked about tonight’s Hoops and Heels event in Rupp Arena from 6-8.
The event costs $41 — Pope wore No. 41 during his three years at UK — and is open only to women to give them an inside look at the men’s basketball program.
Pope’s first UK team will be practicing at Rupp during part of the event to give participants a look at what the Cats do.
He is co-hosting this event with his wife, Lee Anne, and four daughters.
“It is going to actually really be fun,” said Pope. “I am most excited because I get to do it with Lee Anne and my girls.
“All the guys (players) will be there. That will be our last preseason circus type event.”
Pope gave former Kentucky coach John Calipari full credit for starting “a great thing” with the UK women’s clinic.
“I want to continue and grow and expand (the clinic),” Pope said. “I am also excited as a dad of four daughters. It is going to be really fun talking about being all-in on the Cats and it is going to be fun.”
Pope wouldn’t reveal any specific details about the event except that a “bunch of fun things” are planned.
“I can’t wait,” he said.

It will surely be special. And what a bonus to have the HC who does not demand being the center of attention because of an over-inflated ego.
Just a word of advice to anyone thinking about dressing like a woman to get into the event. We are in an unlimited woke state of emergency and there may be some confused folks unaware there are only 2 genders who catch you before you get to the arena and then woe unto you… don’t take a chance.😳
That would be a case of pure fandumb !
