A recruitment that started with an offer from Kentucky recruiting coordinator Vince Marrow when Tucker Kattus was only in the eighth grade paid off for the Wildcats Wednesday when the Cincinnati St. Xavier junior lineman went on Kentucky Sports Radio to give his verbal commitment to  UK.

He already has two older brothers in the program and tight end Josh Kattus could be one of the breakout players for UK this season and Justin Kattus will join UK as a preferred walk-on in June.

Tucker Kattus is a physical 6-5, 300-pound who is rated as the nation’s No. 68 offensive tackle by 247Sports. He had offers from Missouri, Arkansas, Boston College, Michigan, Virginia Tech and Wisconsin. His father, Eric Kattus, played tight end at Michigan and later played in the NFL.

Tucker Kattus has been a frequent visitor to UK for practices and games. He fits perfectly into coach Mark Stoops’ desire to make Kentucky a more physical offense again.

The new commit said on KSR he talked frequently to new offensive line coach Eric Wolford, including when he was coaching at Alabama, and called him “one of the best offensive line coaches” in the country citing the players he’s put in the NFL. However, he was recruited by former UK offensive line coach Zach Yenser for two years and also praised him during that process.

“He’s really intense,” Kattus said about Wolford. “He knows what he’s talking about. I mean, he’s had a lot of experience in the SEC so he knows what it takes to be a top-tier offensive lineman in the SEC. And he expects a lot from me, but if you work really hard, it pays off.”

Kattus said he liked the family atmosphere at UK even when players called him “Baby Kattus” in the locker room on his visits.

The coaches put me as a priority and they tell me that to my face and say I’m a priority, which means a lot,” he said.

  1. 2 years in the weight room and strength and conditioning will do baby Kattus alot of good. He will probably start in year 3. Josh Kattus will be a good target for Brock if the red shirt freshman doesn’t pass him up. I think Jordan Dingle has the highest ceiling but I think Josh has 20+ receptions this year. BBN
