Tigers Claim Five 1st Place Finishes at Owensboro Invitational

Led by big days from Gavin Alston and Ian Rosario, the Hopkinsville Tigers picked up five first-place finishes Saturday at the 2024 Owensboro Invitational. Alston and Alicea each picked up two firsts for the day.

Alston took first in the 200-meter dash with a time of 22.53. His teammate Treston Kay finished in 7th place with a 24.41. Grant King, of Meade County, finished second in 23.06.

Alston also took first in the 400-meter dash with a time of 50.76. Hopkinsville’s Iriel Leek was 9th in a time of 54.11. Mitchell Staples, of Meade County, was the second-place finisher at 52.30.

Rosario took first in the 110-meter hurdles, finishing in 16.15. Trent Arterburn, of Warren East, came in second at 16.38.

Rosario also ran his way to first place in the 300-meter hurdles with a time of 41.31. Hopkinsville’s Elijah Reed took 10th place in the event. Arterburn also got second in this race with a time of 42.24

The other first-place finish for the Tigers came in the 4×400-meter relay, where Hopkinsville won with a time of 3:35.32. Meade County took second place, while Henderson County finished third.

In the team standings, Hopkinsville finished in 5th place with 70 points. Meade County took first with 121 points. Daviess County finished second with 99 points.
