A key two-run error and RBI singles from three different players helped the Crittenden County High School baseball team build a significant opening-inning lead Monday, en route to an eventual 11-0 blanking of Trigg County.

The host Rockets, who were held to just five hits in the district victory, got a productive night from the top of their batting order and a monster outing from junior pitcher Chase Conyer to collect their third win in the past four games.

Sophomore Quinn Summers, who delivered one of the aforementioned RBI singles, which ultimately assisted Crittenden in building a 6-0 lead in the bottom of the first inning, finished 2-for-3 with a team-best three RBI. A two-run single by Summers in the fourth triggered a mercy rule ending after Conyer registered two of his nine strikeouts in the fifth to finish off the run-shortened affair.

Conyer (3-2) allowed just three hits in the five-inning shutout; two of those came on one-out, consecutive singles by the Wildcats’ Aaden Allen and Chase Hampton in the first inning, but they were eventually stranded to end the frame. Conyer walked none and helped his own cause with three walks and an RBI at the plate.

After the Rockets made it 6-0 in the first inning, and 7-0 on Conyer’s bases-loaded walk in the third, a Trigg wild pitch and Jeremiah Foster sacrifice fly provided CCHS with a nine-run cushion. In the fourth, freshman Grayson McKee walked the bases loaded, leading to Summers’ two-run hit.

Haydon Reynolds (0-3) got the start for Trigg County but did not record an out. He walked three, struck out one and allowed five earned runs before Hampton came on in relief. The Rockets drew 13 walks in the victory, including seven from Hampton, who went 2 1/3 innings.

Crittenden County (11-7) also got big offensive performances from Tyler Belt (1-for-3, three runs, RBI, walk, two stolen bases), Foster (1-for-1, run, two RBI, walk), Hudson Stokes (two runs, two walks), Jaxton Duncan (1-for-1, RBI, two walks) and Casey Cates (two RBI, run).

Trigg County (6-7) will try to avoid a three-game losing streak when the ‘Cats welcome 2nd Region rival Christian County to Cadiz for a 5:30 p.m. pairing Tuesday. TCHS will be seeking its first win over the Colonels since 2019.
