Despite doubling up visiting Hopkins County Central in hits on Friday, the Heritage Christian Academy baseball team was undone by the Storm’s six-run sixth in a 9-7 defeat.

Riding a three-game win streak, Hopkins Central took the lead in the top of the first on Tristan Schmaltz’s two-run home run to left field.

The Warriors answered with a run on an error in the bottom of the frame and took the lead on Ethan Miles’ two-run single in the second for a 4-2 score.

Jayden Nichols drove in two runs on a double to stretch the Warrior lead to four before Hopkins Central got a run back on Brody Smith’s RBI single in the top of the fourth.

Smith struck again with a two-run double to jumpstart a six-run Storm sixth, with four runs coming in on passed balls for a 9-6 Hopkins Central lead.

Jake Askew drove in a run with a single in the HCA half of the sixth, but that was it for the Warriors.

Maxwell Clarke picked up the win for the Storm, allowing a pair of earned runs on five hits with two walks and four strikeouts.  Peyton James started on the mound and exited after two innings, giving up three earned runs on four hits with two walks.

Nichols and Collin Outland each had two hits for the Warriors, and Miles and Nichols each drove in a pair of runs.  Ethan Miles took the loss, surrendering seven runs, six earned, on four hits with five walks and ten strikeouts over five frames.

HCA slipped to 5-12 ahead of a visit from Crittenden County on Tuesday.  The Rockets topped the Warriors 16-5 in the teams’ first meeting this season.

Hopkins Central improved to 7-6 and will welcome Union County to Morton’s Gap on Monday.
