Livingston Central Rallies Late to Get Past Trigg County

After leading most of the game, the Trigg County Wildcats saw one get away from them late Thursday night. Trailing 2-0 after five innings, the Livingston Central Cardinals scored five unanswered runs over the final two innings to come from behind and pick up a big 5-2 5th District win over the Wildcats at the Trigg County Recreation Complex.

Livingston scored a run with two outs in the top of the sixth to cut the lead in half at 2-1.

The Cardinals then took the lead by scoring on a ground out and a single to make it 3-2 in the top of the seventh. A two-run error on the Trigg County defense gave Livingston some breathing room at 5-2.

Cardinals’ pitcher Carter Ray then set the Wildcats down in order in the bottom of the seventh to close out the win.

Trigg had gotten to the lead in the bottom of the 2nd when Nathan Simmons scored on a wild pitch to make it 1-0. The Wildcats pushed the lead out to 2-0 in the bottom of the 4th on an RBI single from Jon Humphries.

Both teams had four hits in the game. Trigg was charged with three errors while the Cardinals had one.

Four different Wildcats had a hit in the game. In addition to Jon Humphries, Chase Hampton, Haydon Reynolds, and Aaden Allen had hits for Trigg County.

Aidon Butts was charged with the loss for the Wildcats. He went 6 2/3-innings, giving up four runs, just two of them earned, on four hits, striking out seven while walking four.

Trigg County is set to be back in action Friday evening on the road in Murray.
