Caldwell County’s girls have won three of their last four games after holding on for a 5-4 victory over Mayfield Thursday night in Princeton.

The Lady Tigers improved to 14-12 as they battle to stay above the .500 mark this season.

Caldwell built a 4-1 lead against the Lady Cardinals and took a 5-2 advantage to the seventh inning.

However, Mayfield (5-11) scored twice in the top of the seventh and had runners at second and third with two outs. But Alexis Wood got the next batter to ground out to Harper Holeman at second base to end the game.

Wood struck out 10 and allowed just one earned run on three base hits in the contest.

Meanwhile, Alicia Stanley went 2-for-3 at the plate with a pair of doubles and an RBI to lead the Lady Tigers.

Caldwell scored the game’s first two runs in the bottom of the third. Holeman singled home a run while Stanley doubled in another.

Mayfield got an unearned run in the top of the fourth.

But the Lady Tigers countered with two more runs in the bottom of the frame. Both runs came in on wild pitches to put Caldwell up 4-1.

Two Caldwell errors led to another Mayfield run in the fifth.

The Lady Tigers answered in the bottom of the fifth when Holeman walked and Stanley doubled. Holeman then scored on a wild pitch to make it 5-2.

Mayfield loaded the bases in the seventh on a pair of singles and a hit batter. A run scored on a grounder to short, which resulted in the second out of the inning at second base.

However, a bad throw allowed another run to cross the plate and make it a one-run game at 5-4.

But Caldwell finally held on with the final ground out to second.

The Lady Tigers will play at home again on Friday, hosting Madisonville-North Hopkins for a 7th District makeup date.
