Bethlehem Star Leah Macy Commits to Notre Dame

Top 10 national player Leah Macy of Bethlehem committed to Notre Dame Monday.

She had almost 40 college scholarship offers because five-star power forward Leah Macy is ranked as the No. 9 player in the 2025 recruiting class by Collegiate Girls Basketball Report and No. 14 by ESPN.

Monday the Bethlehem junior put an end to her recruitment by announcing she was committed to Notre Dame in a video posted on social media sites. She plans to sign with the Irish when the early signing period opens Nov. 13.

Macy thanked all the coaches who recruited her as well as the coaches who have guided her journey to become one of the best players not only in Kentucky but in her recruiting class. She thanked all her high school teammates, grandparents, sister and parents for their roles in helping her reach this point.

Macy averaged 24.9 points and 13.9 rebounds during her junior season at Bethlehem and helped the Banshees win another regional title and reach the state tourney quarterfinals before losing to eventual champion Sacred Heart. Bethlehem finished the season 27-9 even though Macy missed about a month with a knee injury. She helped Mercy win a regional championship in 2023 before transferring to Bethlehem.

Macy recently went to Brooklyn to participate in the prestigious first Stewie Elite Camp led by former Connecticut star Breanna Stewart. She is a two-time WNBA champion, two-time WNBA MVP, two-time Olympic gold medalist and current New York Liberty star.

Macy is going to Colorado to try out for USA Basketball in mid-May where Notre Dame coach Niele Ivey will be one of the assistants for USA Basketball at the 2024 FIBA U18 Women’s AmeriCup in June. She will also play for the Kentucky junior all-stars against Indiana on June 1.

Macy has been busy playing in the Under Armour GUAA for West Virginia Thunder. Macy averaged 17.4 points and 5.8 rebounds per game while shooting 54 percent  from the field in five games in the first GUAA weekend and went 10-for-10 at the foul line.

Notre Dame won the ACC Tournament last season and reached the NCAA Tournament Sweet 16.

  2. Hey Paul, being from Kentucky maybe she doesn’t mind winter weather. Keep in mind, it’s right below Indiana not in the deep south.
